The Committee

President

An organised and dedicated person, responsible for overseeing leadership and direction for the club. The president ensures compliance of the committee with the goals of the club and the rules set by the Guild, and supports their committee where needed. The president is a highly organised person, with good communication skills and a strong vision for what the club is. They are someone who knows how to lead a team, and let others take the lead when necessary. They are also the person to chair and direct meetings, and the voice of the committee to external and governing bodies where necessary. The president is also a signatory on the club's bank account.

Vice President

An organised and driven person, plays a key supporting role to the president and other executives in the committee. The vice president has strong interpersonal skills and keeps the rest of the committee accountable alongside the president. They possess many of the same skills and responsibilities as the president, and are ready to step in and lead when the president or other members of the committee are unable, and are another key spokesperson of the club to external bodies.

Treasurer

Someone with a strong attention to detail and good budgeting skills. The treasurer is a highly responsible and sensible person who manages the clubs's finances and is the first point of contact when the committee requests expenditure from the club account. They must maintain detailed financial records of the club and be able to report on and present these records to the committee and wider club member base where necessary, and ensure the club has enough money to continue to operate over the year. The treasurer is also a signatory on the club bank account. 

Secretary

The secretary is responsible for maintaining detailed and accurate records of all club memberships, meetings and documents. They are the one to organise and book meetings of the committee, record and upload the minutes for those meetings, and prepare agendas for the meetings. They are a highly organised person with a strong attention to detail, are good at scheduling, and holding others accountable to action items from meetings. The secretary should have strong communication skills and be available to help the president run meetings as required.

 

Being part of a student committee is a tough but rewarding experience. It develops planning, organisation and team-work skills, and is a highly enjoyable experience. The committee are the people who make the club run. Planning and executing events, deciding club expenditure, contributing at meetings of the committee, and making the experience of club members the most enjoyable and fulfilling it can be. It is hard, but an exciting challenge and well worth the time it requires.
